In a much anticipated rematch the Shamrocks came to North Smithfield to take on the Admirals. From the jump the Admirals had Marlboro’s number. Quarterback Thomas Belin looked much more comfortable out there in this game throwing for over 100 yards and rushing for another 69 yards as he was responsible for 3 of Southern New England’s touchdowns. Belin threw for 2 touchdowns and ran in another 1. Head Coach Eddy Ouellette spoke after the game “With another week of practice I knew we could implement an offense to make Thomas successful at the quarterback position. He’s one of our hardest workers and I knew he would put in the time to make this work. I’m excited to see how much more he grows at the position throughout the season.”
The offense had a stellar game but the real stars of the game belonged on the other side of the ball. Defensive tackle Tyrone Barge won his second player of the game award with 6 tackles and 2 sacks. Players like Tyrone set the tone early and didn’t allow Marlboro to play a physical game where they can pound the ground game. Cornerback Chris Gomes also had himself a game with 5 tackles and an interception. Chris was able to come up and play great run support while still making impact plays in the pass game, he disrupts plays at a high rate. Defensive coordinator Peter Kane was in high spirits after this performance saying “the defense came ready to play tonight. Any time you can shutout one of your rivals who play a very physical game is a good day in my books. I like how we’ve strung two good performances together and looking forward to playing a high octane offense next week with the Boston Bandits.”
